CE Marking

The CE marking for pressurized tanks was born with the 97/23/ EC PED directive (now 2014/68/UE).
The purpose of the directive is to facilitate the circulation of products within the EU as an unique technical standard.
The CE marking is affixed to all products that comply with the PED requirements.
The PED divides the pressurized tanks into categories according to the fluid cointained and to the product of volume (V) and pressure (PS).

Without CE marking (PS x V ≤ 50)

If the product of PS x V is less than or equal to 50 the manufacturer ensures the quality of construction and is solely responsible for any damages and the CE marking is not affixed.
Many smaller Varem products are included in this category, such as:

Extravarem LR 8 l8 l5 barPS x V = 40
Intervarem 5 l5 l8 barPS x V = 40

Category I (50 < PS x V ≤ 200)

This category includes tanks with product of PS x V greater than 50 and less than or equal to 200.
The manufacturer ensures the quality of design, manufracturing and final inspection of these vessels and may affix the CE marking.
Many Varem products are included in this category, such as:

Intervarem 20 l20 l10 barPS x V = 200
Extravarem LR 40 l40 l5 barPS x V = 200

Category II (200 < PS x V ≤ 1000)

This category includes tanks with product of PS x V greater than 200 and less than or equal to 1000.
The manufacturer ensures the quality of design and manufacturing. A notified body of his choice monitors the final inspection and authorizes him to affix the CE marking.
Many Varem products are included in this category, such as:

Maxivarem LR 60 l60 l6 barPS x V = 360
Maxivarem LS 100 l100 l10 barPS x V = 1000

Category III (1000 < PS x V ≤ 3000)

This category includes tanks with product of PS x V greater than 1000 and less than or equal to 3000.
The manufacturer ensures the quality of design and manufacturing. A notified body of his choice monitors the final inspection and authorizes him to affix the CE marking.
Many Varem products are included in this category, such as:

Maxivarem LR 500 l500 l6 barPS x V = 3000
Maxivarem LS 300 l300 l10 barPS x V = 3000

Category IV (PS x V >3000)

This category includes tanks with product of PS x V greater than 3000.
The manufacturer ensures the quality of design and manufacturing. A notified body of his choice monitors the final inspection and authorizes him to affix the CE marking.
The larger Varem products are included in this category, such as:

Maxivarem LS 500 l500 l10 barPS x V = 5000
Maxivarem LS 1000 l1000 l10 barPS x V = 10000

The monitoring body, which must be notified by the UE Commission, subjects the manufacturer to different levels of control according to the category of vessel for which CE marking is requested.
For high categories the tests are more extensive although the manufacturer may choose from different procedures and therefore different controls to attain the same results.
